What is a Salicylic peel?

Salicylic peel is meant for removing the oily (seborrheic) secretions from the skin. It is available in various strengths such as 10%, 15%, 20%, & 20%. It is also available in combination with pyruvic acid, glycolic acid,etc.

Are Chemical peels harmful ? Do they contain Chemical?

Chemical peels are called so as they have chemical structure and not because they are chemicals. Like oxygen which has a chemical structure O2, but is not a chemical.

Who can do Salicylic peel?

Salicylic peel can be done for oily skin, pimples and black heads of nose. It is often used in combination with TCA peels for dark thick skin of underarms and elbows.

What does Chemical peel do to my skin?

The peel removes the superficial layers of the skin & reduces oily secretions.

Is a Salicylic peel painful?

No. there is a mild degree of "tingling" or a slightly itchy sensation when the peel is applied to the skin.

How is a Salicylic peel performed?

The technician will clean the skin with an antibacterial and antigreasing agent to remove excessive oils and contamination. The peel is then applied by the dermatologist and left for a certain period of time depending on the skin type and the indication for the peel. Then the peel is neutralised after 3-5 minutes.

How long does it take to have a Salicylic peel?

About 5-10 minutes to apply the peel, hence it is popular as a "lunch time" peel.

What are the post procedure precautions after a Salicylic peel?

You need to use a sunscreen strictly after a Salicylic peel. You should not do any waxing/bleaching/plucking/scrubbing or steaming of skin when the skin is peeling.

Can one go right back to work after a Glycolic peel?

Yes, one can go to work and all activities may be resumed immediately.
